"hrm" [17:13] *yawn* [17:13] this is not fun [17:13] just had double-migraine today [17:14] however atleast it left my head peacefully [17:14] Since I don't have a good reply, I only reply: "Think how it would hurt, if you'd saw your left arm off." ;-) [17:16] thankfully, i dont need to [17:16] :-) [17:17] Did anybody every try to measure the speed of the different MARS implementations? [17:17] *ever [17:18] not really sure [17:18] I guess that means "no" then [17:19] dont remember any other than "my mars is xx% faster that yyy" [17:19] My MARS is 10 % faster than fmars [17:19] Sth. like that? ;-) [17:19] y [17:42] Join: sf joined #corewars [17:42] Hello [17:42] Hi sf :-) [17:43] Hi Fluffle [17:43] * Fluffy sighs [17:46] What about Will Varfa's "Which Mars" article. [17:46] Doesn't he measure the speed? [17:46] And Mr Should Not Be Named? [17:46] He compared several when he made exhaust iirc [17:47] I've read "Which Mars" a while ago and it gave me lots of ideas for PyCorewar [17:47] Did you read the page on Mars implementation ideas on the Wiki? [17:48] yes [17:49] Join: TinyIRC_ joined #corewars [17:50] Nick Change: TinyIRC_ changed nick to sf[2] [17:51] hehe ... didn't know, that you live in an array, sf ;-) [17:51] :) [17:51] I am the array ;) [17:52] MSG: Ping timeout: 252 seconds [17:52] Join: Core29 joined #corewars [17:53] I don't think I have any nano warriors worth publishing [17:53] I will take a look [17:53] Hi Core29 [17:53] hi [17:56] Hi Core29 [18:11] Found one to post :) I haven't much on the nano hill right now [18:15] That's one more new nano-warriors [18:16] MSG: Quit: I was using TinyIRC! Visit http://www.tinyirc.net/ for more information. [18:16] Join: sf joined #corewars [18:16] You may evolve against it if you wish ;) [18:17] I'm quite busy implementing some interesting ideas for PyCorewar [18:17] No time to write warriors. [18:18] It is far more interesting to become crazy optimizing PyCorewar [18:19] And I will become crazy, because I'm optimizing for different CPUs ;-) [18:19] :) [18:20] Not that different surely, all x86 compatible? [18:20] Then problem is, that even the most common CPUs have different sizes for L1/L2-cache and different timings for the same instruction. [18:21] For example the "usual" process queue needs 8000 entries per warrior. [18:22] But you can trade some speed for memory and use 8000 + 80000 (maxcycles + maxprocesses) entries for it [18:22] (That removes the need to code the wrap around.) [18:22] But the big process queue doesn't fit into some L2-caches [18:23] or L1-caches [18:24] and then there is the Pentium4, which becomes fastest when you use the slowest process queue implementation [18:24] at least, slowest on "every" other cpu [18:24] * Fluffy is talking to himself again [18:24] ;-) [18:27] * sf nods [18:29] Maybe I should recognize it a little bit sooner the next time. [18:29] * sf listened, but can't make any constructive suggestions :) [18:30] Sascha's and mine solution is easy. [18:30] We pass on the problem to the user's of PyCorewar. [18:30] :) [18:30] We've just implemented every method and let the user decide which to use [18:33] Join: Roy joined #corewars [18:33] Fluffy..! [18:33] Hi Roy! [18:34] Roy: Any progress with your evolver? [18:34] Er... not working on my evolver... studying again now [18:34] Hi Roy [18:35] Had the second day of my new job, and all I got was this lousy Java Book [18:35] Oh, I haven't clicked you yet today [18:36] You're making a bit of a mess at the bottom of the nano hill Roy [18:36] fluf: I now have comparison agains exMars too (on my windows machine) [18:37] Roy: and? [18:37] You'll like it...exmars isn't so fast as I thought [18:38] sf: What mess..!? [18:38] Car Roy van Rijn [18:39] Roy: How fast is PyCorewar, exmars, and pmars on your computer? [18:39] Science Abuse Roy van Rijn [18:39] Thats not a mess.. [18:39] Fluff: still computing (again) [18:39] Roy: I'll wait :-) [18:39] pMARS : 8.879 MIPS [18:39] exMARS : 23.894 MIPS (169.1 % faster than pMARS) [18:39] PyCorewar : 34.700 MIPS (290.8 % faster than pMARS) [18:39] Where are the strategy lines Roy? [18:40] All evolved, no real strategy except clears (sorry!) [18:40] ";strategy danger" isn't very informative :P [18:40] Hehe, was sleeping at the time... [18:41] I get my inspiration from the world around me, Science Abuse (that text was on tv atm) with under that big "DANGER!" [18:42] :) [18:43] And Car is a tribute to my new car! (my first car ever) [18:44] And New Design was a brand new design of evolved warrior (which came out of the evolver suddenly) [18:45] I thought you had a car before which someone smashed up? [18:45] Oh, something new! [18:45] Err no, that was my mothers car (somebody walked over it) [18:45] A new kind of mad mad bomber? [18:46] No..just a different clear compared to all the others [18:46] Roy: mythbusters? [18:46] No, Braniac actually...! [18:46] But close :) [18:47] *brainiac [18:48] Dude, what happend to Google.. [18:48] Roy? [18:48] It is suggesting words on the first search page.. [18:48] Yes sf..? [18:49] Like this? Bedoelde u: freddy [18:50] Noo.. it devides the first page in three parts now sometimes, and its adding words to my searchterm [18:50] I've never seen it do that [18:51] Like: 'brainiac' -> 3 'brainiac' results & 3 'brainiac discovery' results & 3 'brianiac science' results [18:51] Its something new I guess.. [18:52] Maybe its on trail here first.. [18:56] Bombus Velox didn't last long. Entered in 3rd place, dropped off age 14 [18:56] Then publish it, too :-) [18:56] I did :) [18:57] That's the alternative constants shown in the warrior I sent to r.g.cw [18:57] Is raptor an evolver? [18:58] No idea.. [18:58] someone asked in the logs but no-one answered yet [18:59] Because almost no onw knows? [19:00] Must be. Pity sal doesn't show email address like koth [19:18] But how far is the latest PyCorewar Fluffy, I'm curious :) you should keep a blog of your findings/advances or something! [19:18] No, Sascha and I will keep a little secret for a while [19:19] *it [19:19] But once version 0.3.0 is release we'll write a short article about how to optimize a MARS [19:20] *released [19:20] But of course you can pay me to get the latest version :-) [19:20] Heh you are spamming me sf! :-O [19:21] Sorry [19:21] And no thanks Fluff, 0.2.0 already works lots better then anything I had [19:21] Roy: And if you need a reason to pay me, I'll tell you, that the current version is about 10 % faster than fmars on my computer. [19:21] Maybe you should turn off verbose [19:22] I have a new kind of combined decode and attack for a nano qscan [19:22] But I can't make it work well enough to enter the hill [19:23] Has anyone solved your cypher yet Roy? [19:25] No, one guy was really close, haven't heard from him afterwards [19:25] But actualy, I haven't read that email yet, he might have solved it...
