[03:18] Join: resta joined #corewars [03:18] hi there [03:18] Nick Change: resta changed nick to hwm [03:18] hello [03:18] how are things? [03:19] Lucky day for you, i am not normally up 6 in the morning [03:19] or anyone else on this channel for that matter, with maybe datagram being exception [03:19] I see [03:19] I am only up at that hour if I was still awake :> [03:20] may i suggest that you kill stride off the beginner-hill? [03:20] Why? [03:21] I don't mind too much either way... [03:22] I think it is a bit too good for it [03:22] I guess so. [03:23] I tried it on the tourney hill, it flopped... [03:23] I am not saying that i have anything against experimenting on that hill [03:23] I'm working on a new version anyway. [03:23] I guess I can kill it. [03:24] The different coresize is probably the reason why it did badly on tourney [03:24] Once I try the new one. [03:24] I guess so. [03:25] Yes, 8192 is a funny old number! [03:25] Maybe on koth I guess. [03:25] I know it'll be killed on fortress. [03:26] These fellows are clever. [03:26] brb [03:26] The beginner-hills will sooner or later get better and better warrior until it is no longer a beginner-hill unless it is controlled. The hill has already an age-limit, but it is very hard for beginner nontheless to make something actually working. [03:27] Because of the write-limit, fortress hill is quite different from normal. [03:28] With a quick check youll notice that Edgar's Silver talon has 0 wins there, even though it is quite capable (if a bit outdated) scanner on normal conditions. [03:29] Yes [03:30] Well I have only really been coding for corewars serriously for three weeks. [03:30] sp [03:31] I expected a little longer experience, since you have #1 on nano [03:31] I know that in the past the top warrior on the beginners hill on koth went on to the big hill on koth. [03:31] Well, I have worked very hard lately. [03:32] There are some old warriors I tried last year. [03:32] But they are hopeless. [03:33] I have been programming a long time, so corewars isn't to much of a learning curve I guess. [03:33] too [03:33] Typos today. [03:33] you could try adding an imp-spiral or two on Fat Bob [03:34] Yes, I have thought about it. [03:34] Is Collins a scanner, coreclear, or something else? [03:35] You could just take an vector imp-launcher from '94 warrior or some other source and glue it to Bob, the difference can be notable in benchmark, even if not on beginner-hill [03:36] it isn't a scanner [03:36] its a spl/dat coreclear [03:36] ah [03:37] Yeah I'll see what I can hack together in that regard [03:37] you could turn it into a oneshot of course [03:37] Well I'm not bad at oneshots in nano [03:38] (i hate oneshots, since they are both easy to make and efficient) [03:38] yes [03:38] well I'm new to this. [03:39] I like what works for me I guess. [03:39] The first warrior i ever got to Koth was a oneshot.. [03:39] I understand. [03:39] http://koti.mbnet.fi/mizcu/corewars/monowire.htm [03:39] thank you [03:40] however, mono cant reach koth anymore nowadays, it needs more bite [03:41] Well things have changed. [03:41] yes, there were few paper/imps then [03:43] imp rings have been around a long time though. eg. art in '88 [03:44] There is quite a difference between few rings and 3000-4000 processes in 24-process spirals [03:45] a ring can be dropped by a lucky bomb, 4000 processes in spirals cannot be defeated by a coreclear having 1c gate unless using specialized bombs [03:48] fair enough. [03:48] but yes, creating them does take time and there is never enough time [03:48] There is a difference, I agree. [03:49] paper is fast [03:49] And too many imps means less wins, and scoring favours winners [03:49] Yes, well stride is my first paper. [03:51] which is based on yorba which is based upon reepicheep.. [03:52] yes [03:52] it scores okay against both of them [03:52] Was it created by playing around with Yorba or from scratch with heavy eyeing? [03:52] some of the tighter dwarves it struggles though [03:54] well, I had a look at yorba, and started optimizing, noticed I could improve it by adding a bomber and speed up the djn process. [03:55] I'm struggling now to see how I can improve on that though. [03:55] There is not that much to improve in it without making structural changes [03:55] Yes, I have noticed that :) [03:56] I'm going to go and have a cup of tea, I'll be back in a few. [03:58] Most magic in that type of Paper/stones is in the stepsizes and in balacing between the two parts. The balancing is very stressful to get the absolutely perfect balance. [04:03] The paper should not overwrite the stone, nor make so many processes that it overwhelms it. [04:04] But the paper should still replicate fast enough to resist other warrior's attacks and be capable of winning by itself if stone is killed early. [04:05] okay [04:05] well It's time to go and fix dinner [04:05] it's been good talking to you anyway. [04:07] If you got any questions, just drop it here and someone will answer it. http://www.koth.org/irc-logs/ [04:08] thankyou.
