[15:19] evenin' [15:34] hrm [15:34] sf! come back [15:34] heya heathster [15:34] bbiab.. gotta commute [15:38] Commute? [15:42] Commuter = Commuting person [15:42] common word [15:43] Well yeah, but I was just looking for clarification:: Like a commute from one room to another, or like a 45 minute drive. [15:45] I just got a new machine in my office. Running Solaris 8 :|. [15:46] something wrong with it? [15:47] Just old. [15:47] And I'm not 100% sure what I am supposed to do with him. [15:47] oops, 10 was newest [15:47] Yeah, 8 is about 6 years old I think. [16:15] I've got like a 10 minute train ride.. [16:15] heath: want to see my solaris box? [16:15] Ok. [16:18] WOW. [16:19] bigger than yours? [16:20] Bvowk always wants he's things big. Compensation? [16:20] heh [16:21] Much bigger. I have a SunBlade 2500 (my main workstation) and a SunBlade 100 (the one I just got handed) in my office right now. [16:21] sunblade 100? [16:21] I also run stuff on a machine that resides somewhere, but I don't know where that somewhere is. [16:21] its so little and cute! [16:21] :) [16:21] aww.. lookit the little sparc box.. [16:21] (sorry, I was just making fun of someones sunblade the other day) [16:22] they were running numbers on it, and complaining about the speed... [16:22] Yeah, I don't know what I am going to do with it. I overhear them the other day saying, "Yeah, give it to Heath." [16:22] so I mocked them until they tried running it on the quad opteron of doom, and it finished so fast they just about dropped their coffee cup [16:23] :) [16:23] THen someone came into my office and plopped it on my desk. [16:24] Well, off to a meeting for me. [16:28] Join: johnkw joined #corewars [16:28] 'Paranoia is a very comforting state of mind. If you think They're out to get you, it means you think you matter.' [17:07] I'm back. [19:24] hrm. [20:01] ? [20:03] whats up heath? [20:03] How's it going? [20:06] its going alright.. [20:06] my office is a little warmer than I'd li.e [20:06] I'm sorry to hear that. My office is usually quite cold. Often too cold. [20:08] luckily I came to work in sandals and shorts instead of jeans and combat boots [20:11] The corewars wiki is broken? [20:11] I think thats what pk was saying [20:11] :( I need it for my reserach. [20:12] Unless you need many pages of stuff, just ask me [20:13] Well, I like to read through and digest information about different types of warriors, so that I can learn how to write some that don't suck. [20:13] What is a q-scanner? [20:13] A scanner with unrolled loop [20:14] has 4 different generations, Qscan, Q^2. Q^3 and guess-what [20:14] And is a Q^3 always better than a Q^2, or are they just different? [20:14] Because of unrolling, it cannot be looped and are usually used before main warrior [20:15] Generally always better [20:15] But there can be exceptions [20:16] The biggest difference is not in the scanning instructions, but in the decoding instead [20:17] First generation was in form of seq a,b | mov.ab #1, found | seq c,d | mov | seq | found: jmz.b warrior, #0 [20:17] and is found fails, it checks every scanned instructions again with add/jmz -loop before bombing [20:17] thats a lot of wasted time [20:18] there's some small variants in some of the Q^n's as well.. sometimes people tweak them slightly for their warrior.. (rare, but it has been seen) [20:18] most times they just cut and paste the q^n on [20:19] Q^2: seq a,b | mov.ab #a, found | seq | mov | seq | mov | jmn.b warrior, found | seqmovseqmovseqmov | jmz [20:19] Q^2 moves the position found to the decoder, and it uses jmn's in middle of qscan in case something is found early [20:20] It is probably the easiest type of qscan to write without advanced maths [20:20] Q^3: seq a,b | jmp decoder, table1 etc [20:21] well, table is wrong name [20:21] actually [20:21] but the point is, that the decoder uses 3 mul's, which multiply magic numbers with numbers in a table [20:22] and the jmp-instructions modify the mul's so that they multiply with different values depending and which jmp triggered [20:23] Q^4 is quite the same, but it uses multiple tables so it can use less mul's [20:24] Q4^5 uses a trick to get few more scans without making bigger tables [20:24] My head is swimming. I have found this: [20:24] http://corewars.jgutzeit.de/quickscanners/index.en.html [20:24] Is it a good resource? [20:24] yes [20:25] There is so much to learn in this world. And such a narrow bandwidth to squeeze it through. [20:25] Q^3 and Q^4 are usually copy-pasted because they use really annoying instructions pre-compile [20:26] like [20:26] sne.i found+qm*qa2, found+qm*qa2+qb2 [20:26] seq.i < qTab1, found+qm*(qa2-1)+qb2 [20:26] jmp q0, { q0 [20:31] Then there a table-scans which are somewhat like, but i dont want to fill your bandwith any more [20:32] :) [20:35] MSG: Ping timeout: 252 seconds [20:37] Join: fiveop joined #corewars [22:56] MSG: Quit: humhum [23:26] MSG:
