[15:11] Join: Fluffy joined #corewars [15:11] :) [15:11] wow. [15:11] huh? [15:12] fluffy comes back when I arrive? [15:12] * Fluffy pokes bvowk in the eye [15:12] ... and runs away [15:13] * Fluffy comes back and tries again [15:13] whatcha hacking on fluffy? [15:13] got pycorewar done yet/ [15:13] Seems as if you don't read the logs [15:13] say no and I'll go back to not hacking on corewars :) [15:13] no, I don't read the logs [15:13] I make it a point of avoiding them [15:14] I've finished writing a fast load-file parser and for 94nop run() and p_run() seems to work [15:14] miz: that link won't load :( [15:14] why would I need to load files fast? [15:14] bvowk: Is that enough for your purposes? [15:14] why not? [15:15] I load them once on the server and then run a billion trillion battles before anyone ever writes anything back to disk [15:15] <-- keeps it all in memory. [15:15] No everybody's name is bvowk :) [15:15] no, only the good bodies. [15:16] ok.. that sounds wrong :) [15:16] yes, really wrong [15:16] so you're telling me that pycorewar is working? [15:16] For your purposes: yes [15:16] damn. [15:16] you mean I have no excuse?! [15:17] If you give me 10 minutes to copy all data from my laptop, then I could mail you the current version [15:17] hmm ... first I have to find the laptop though [15:18] And 10 minutes after that I expect you to have completed your evolver [15:18] ok [15:18] wait.. you've misplaced your notebook? [15:19] no [15:19] I only don't know where to find it [15:19] but there are only few locations to look for it [15:19] and even if I don't find it, I have backups :) [15:22] (found laptop) [15:22] he who must not be mentioned in #corewars and I debugged sal yesterday a little, I think it should be happy and shiny again for quite some time. It appears that the server had a slight memory leak that eventually ran into a process limit [15:23] (which was set really low, because well, koth should never need that much memory right?) [15:23] so we fixed the bug and raised the limit [15:23] Yes, I've noticed, that SAL was down :( [15:27] well you coulda sent me a fucking email! [15:28] * bvowk bitchslaps fluffy! [15:28] *ouch* [15:29] I'm sorry fluffy, but sometimes, you just make me so mad... [15:31] * Fluffy has found all necessary files for PyCorewar [15:32] * Fluffy has sent email [15:33] just run "python setup.py install" to install it [15:33] * asw waves [15:33] even abusive Canadians should be able to do that ;-) [15:33] Hi asw [15:33] * asw hey [15:33] heh [15:34] bvowk: By the way ... now you have less than 10 minutes to finish your evolver [15:36] hmm ... Pluto now has 3 moons: Charon, Nix and Hydra [15:36] err ... it had them probably even before now ;-) [15:40] bvowk: Got the email? [15:40] not yet.. [15:40] you're still navigating spam filter I expect.. [15:41] 30 minutes delay [15:41] Yes, it seems as if my way of writing emails is very spamy :( [15:44] http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5627694446211716271&q=spam [15:50] bvowk? [15:50] yes? [15:50] email? [15:51] not yet.. you're still tarpitted.. waiting for your ISP to retry the send.. [15:51] do you get that much spam? [15:51] uh.. yeah. :) [15:52] I've got 700 user accounts.. most of them academics who've posted to usenet, conference forums etc.. [15:52] if you want your collegues to get in touch with you, you can't make your email hard to find right? :) [15:52] so we get big fat sticky wads of spam. [15:52] more than you can likely imagine. [15:53] so we run something called spamd which does graylisting in front of the mail server.. [15:53] hmm ... at the moment about 1 out of 20 my mails is not spam [15:53] basicly, the idea is that spammers don't write fully compliant smtp servers to spew huge swaths of emails.. [15:54] so if you reject the first delivery attempt for any tuple of email (tuple being the ip address, message id, and to/from data) with a temporary code.. [15:54] and then accept mail from any host that tries back after the 30 minute window.. [15:55] yes, I know such ways to "prevent" spam [15:55] (like the RFC says they're supposed to) [15:55] it works *AMAZINGLY* well. [15:55] wait a couple of years and it won't :( [15:55] not likely.. [15:55] hmm ... probably earlier [15:56] Join: Core_old joined #corewars [15:56] a) its been a couple years b) there will always be enough low hanging fruit that they don't need to bother to write all the extra code, and queue retries c) they already recognise the spamd banner and don't even try to send the first time :) [15:56] Hi old Core! [15:56] ;-) [15:58] basicly, if someones running spamd, there's no point in retrying, because they've likely got something else to screen that which gets through.. [18:14] what's bump top [18:14] see url, its a GUI [18:14] (desktop) [18:28] Does anybody know anything new about the tournament? [18:35] weird stuff people make [18:36] SSDs have been around for quite a while [18:36] (for a lot of money :) [18:38] MSG: Ping timeout: 252 seconds [18:38] who needs 8 Gigs of ramdrive anyway? [18:39] If I remember correctly 32 GiB SSDs already exist :) [18:39] who needs.. [18:40] If you have a lot of data, which you want to store quickly, then you need them [18:41] and you have very good access times compared to harddisks [18:43] but i still cant think of a good reason [18:43] NASA with their ultra-cameras and telescopes? [18:45] hmm ... one advantage is, that there are no moving parts [18:46] so you can use them in environments with lots of vibration [18:46] apart from that think of a database, which (mostly) randomly accesses small chunks of data [18:47] and then you might be a nerd, which doesn't need a reason to posses a SSD [18:48] hmm, a nerd, which is paid very well [18:48] like bvowk [18:49] who has in a delirious state started dumping evolving warriors on HD/RD [18:51] I think, it would be fun to see harddisks and usual RAM united in one device for an acceptable price [18:51] But I have to wait a few more years [19:03] but only a few I guess [19:06] It is always only a "few" years [19:14] MSG: [19:16] :P [19:28] MSG: Quit: humhum [19:33] People are so stupid!
