[00:35] irc-server crashed on me, but looks like it was the shell-server that went on me [00:36] hmm im to tired to think networking [00:36] i have no idea what kind of warrior i should try to write next [00:37] i got one of my "carpet series" bots to spot 12 on the newbie hill but I think that's about as far as it's gonna go [00:38] hey i know what paper and stone are but what are scissors? [00:38] scanners [00:39] see www.firetrench.com/corewar/files/introintoart88.pdf [00:39] right [00:40] that doc is really old, though [00:40] because they can take out replicators but are slower then stones [00:40] ive heard something about a program type called "vampire" is that pheasable or just a whole bunch of newbie hype? [00:41] vampires used to be strong, but they have become weaker by time [00:42] vampire is generally a program that throws jmp's, and these jmp's point to a "pit", usually a carpet of spl's [00:42] but hw does it actually kill anything? [00:42] and once enough of these jmp's (called fangs), it wipes the whole core with dat's, including the pit [00:43] *once have been thrown [00:44] right [00:44] vampires are weakest if something is capable of damaging the pit [00:44] so it would be good against papers if it wipes the pit last [00:45] because they could not escape the dat bombing due to the decrease in speed. [00:45] problem is, that papers are most likely to damage the pit [00:46] it may be worthwile to give up a bit of one process to keep re-initializing the spls [00:46] or keep a very small pit i.e. spl0,0 jmp -1 [00:47] vampires are today used only on p-space warriors, because they can "brainwash" an opponent, make then write trash in their own pspace [00:47] right. [00:47] the problem that each fang has the location of the pit, and a single attack that goes through a fang will hit the pit [00:47] another one i heard was that they could be used to dat bomb the core in a way that wont hit the vampire [00:48] it is possible to use a double-fang system, which keeps the pit safe, but a such vampire remains weak after a fang-hit [00:49] anyways [00:49] id really like to beat my current spod on the newbie hill befor i go to bed [00:50] the hill is really weak against replicators, because it hasnt good scanners [00:51] right [00:51] im not sure how to go about making a good replicator though. [00:52] because, if its just something that copies itself all over memory then all it would do was turn the enemy into a paper as well [00:52] making the first replicator is a major challenge [00:54] im thinking that it might be semi-useful to make a paper which copied itself as well as five dats at the end in such a way that every replica would eventually be dated so if the enemy does become a paper i should have way more papers then him hence wiping him out with the dats [00:54] does that make any sense? [00:54] i know it may have been dumbly worded. [00:55] it is common for new paper-copies to kill older ones [00:55] right thats what im getting at, but instead of just writing over them im thinking that it would be good to dat over them. [00:56] and you can also use some type of a trick to notice if you are running with wrong number of processes (after overwriting an enemy, for example) [00:58] i think it time for me to go back to bed [00:58] ok ty for your help. [00:58] feel free to mail me, if you have questions, [01:01] ty [01:05] Mizcu? [01:05] will sne.b compare the b fields? [02:22] pak21? [02:22] multimode? [02:22] log_guy? [02:22] johnkw? [02:22] asw?
