[01:24] hrm. [06:26] yay, 3 hours of prooogramming [06:28] at work? [06:29] school [06:29] ahaa [06:29] i remember... slowly *G* [06:45] great, making flowcharts, whee [07:01] everything done, including homework [07:01] reaaaallly hard [07:02] i thought you were working for fun *g* hope it was fun [07:04] no hope for these 2.5 months to be fun [07:04] yay, 3 hours of programming, 2 of physics, 4 of studying how to put a program together [07:05] it just happens that the last 3 'puters i have had, i have put together without any help [07:05] and every PC before them i have taken apart and put back together [07:05] so the course is going to be a blast [07:06] can you do it blindly? when wind is blowing? when drunk? *ggg* [07:06] blindly, no. wind blowing? yes. when drunk? yes. [07:07] When having migraine or while under LSD, DMT, BSD, AMD or some other hard stuff, no [07:08] you forgot IBM, NEC and intel [07:08] thankfully i have corewin with me on the usb-stick, so i can spend some creative time here [07:09] (its kinda impossible to install anything on these puters, since the 'doze is loaded over network at every start) [07:10] oh, the last 4 hours are putting a 'puter together, not a program together of course [07:10] sure *g* [07:10] and the lessons are must-attend, to add to the fun-rating [08:24] Jesus N lapdancing christ [08:25] someones been having an anti-brainstorm when making our schedules [08:27] there was nothing wrong with our schedule, and now it has been rearranged so that it has a collision between physics and pc-building [08:37] ah, no, it wasnt screwed, they just happened to make it oversize in our schedule [08:37] *sigh* [08:37] try SPL [08:38] i prefer throwin Nop at our physics-teacher [08:39] heheh [10:43] Join: Core_old joined #corewars [11:00] Join: Core_old_ joined #corewars [11:03] MSG: Ping timeout: 255 seconds [11:50] Join: fiveop joined #corewars [14:20] MSG: Ping timeout: 255 seconds [16:54] Join: Fluffy joined #corewars [16:54] :| [16:56] * Fluffy congrats Zul for his Petro "I'm Old" Warrior [03] [17:16] Join: Core_old joined #corewars [17:19] * bvowk sells fluffy on ebay [17:19] Hi bvowky [17:19] I can't be sold on eBay. I'm a living animal! [17:20] are you now? [17:20] * bvowk grins evilly. [17:23] Yes, I'm a lovingly fluffy animal! [17:23] ... which has already been chopped into tiny pieces by verrry baaad person! [17:24] Fortunately I've watched T-2 and know how to reassemble myself [17:26] bvowk: I'm don't see any of your warriors in the Top-10. Do you need help? [17:26] heh [17:28] ... and I'm still waiting for an acceptable naming scheme! [17:28] How about this: First warrior will be named "bvowk can't program I" [17:28] Second warrior will be named "bvowk can't program II" [17:29] third warrior will be named "bvowk can't program III" [17:29] ... [17:34] bah. [17:37] How many computrons are you using for all those weak warrior? ;-) [17:37] not many.. just threejane and ned [17:38] I've got some from another bunch of boxes, but I haven't looked at any of them yet [17:38] doh. [17:38] I accidently resubmitted one [17:39] Do you still submit your warriors manually? [17:40] yeah, for now [17:40] Join: gareth joined #corewars [17:40] and those silly hex numbers still mean sth.? [17:40] HI gareth! [17:40] hiya! [17:40] thats not bad. [17:41] how's that fluffy? [17:41] and yeah, the hex means something.. [17:41] Fah! TB is sill better than you weak warrior! [17:41] *your [17:42] you can find out the actual warrior from the hex string if you were so inclined [17:42] The complete warrior is encoded in the name? [17:42] yup [17:42] well.. not encoded.. [17:42] you could find the warrior that matched the hash [17:43] what's this now?:D [17:43] * Fluffy kicks bvowk just for the fun of it [17:43] you can reverse my warriors from the names [17:43] its form-mods-oprands hashed with CRC32 [17:43] But nobody would want to have a look at those warriors ;-) [17:45] bvowk: Is your mini-hsa still on the hill? [17:45] yeah, there's a few [17:46] several variants in fact [17:50] you cannot reverse CRC32s though can you? [17:50] no, you'll need to test warriors to find the hash that matches [17:50] heehee [17:54] bvowk, I've just noticed that there is a little problem with SAL. The submission dates are a little bit wrong [17:55] For example: http://sal.math.ualberta.ca/warrior.php?key=nano&id=3980 hasn't been submitted at 04:13:30 GMT ... the time must be closer to 11:13:30 GMT or so [17:55] Maybe the wrong time zone? [17:56] I dunno. [17:56] the time appears to be correct on it.. [17:56] its synched to an atomic clock [17:57] the maybe the SAL- script uses localtime instead of gmtime? [17:57] *then [17:57] possibly [17:57] yup, that's it [17:58] look at the currently submitted warrior [17:58] that's definitely not GMT [17:59] yeah.. J says its mountain [17:59] * Fluffy is doing everything to prevent bvowk from sending more badly named warriors [18:01] bvowk: Are you sure to use the first letter of the name of WHMNBN? [18:01] That might be dangerous! [18:02] huh? [18:02] J! [18:03] ahh [18:03] yes. [18:04] It is still time to run away! [18:06] * Fluffy has just mailed the sources of Vera City I to Koenigstuhl ... [19:31] I was wondering if you're still buying opterons, or if the new intel kit is more competitive? [19:31] its more competitive, but the bang per dollar is still slightly on the opteron side [19:31] (I'm also sitting on my home pc to give species more time to crunch nano) [19:31] especially if you're buying slightly off the edge opterons, there's no competitive equiv from intel yet. [19:31] flat out performance, intel stepped ahead? [19:32] maybe slightly [19:32] depends on your workload [19:32] heavy numerical stuff, yeah, they'd ahead, but only if you can take advantage of multi-cores too [19:33] mixed work load or heavily parallel, likely O [19:33] especial since you can get an 8 core O box for the price of a quad intel ;) [19:35] think it'll swing the other way this year? [19:36] no [19:37] I think the quad core O's are going to demolish the intel offerings, because the O's have a sane and intelligent bus design that scales way way up and intel has bottlenecked core pairs [19:37] unless intels got some secret chipset magic up their sleeves [19:37] intels apparently demoing an 80 core processor running at 4Ghz tho [19:38] its only got like 100M transistors tho, so its likely a *REALLY* simple core [19:40] imagine they are arm :-) [19:40] maybe [19:40] simple != slow [19:40] unless simple = no floating point like the niagra [19:40] normal desktop workloads can't be parallelised [19:40] I can't see the need for more than two cores on a normal desktop really [19:41] the returns diminish [19:41] MSG: Quit: Trillian (http://www.ceruleanstudios.com [19:41] I think they can't be diminished with our current programming ideals [19:41] I'm guessing your mostly fp? [19:41] I think if we started moving towards functional programming, and changed out ideals on design to reduce locking and interdependance on global variables.. [19:42] we could likely get your average desktop box screaming. [19:42] going to take some serious re-eval of the pc Os tho [19:42] becuase lets face it, windows sucks for multiprocessing [19:44] I meant floating point, re niagra, but functional is a good angle too :-) [19:44] niagra doing well, being useful? [19:48] well. [19:49] I was pretty disappointed with the niagra test box I had [19:49] I had really high hopes :( [19:49] but bang per dollar it was pretty sorry [19:51] sun not so strong these days? [19:51] how goes your big sparc at home? [19:51] well, sun has never been especially high on the bang per dollar front.. [19:51] but the niagra really licked balls for all my tests [19:51] my big sparc is doing well.. [19:52] its only got 10CPUS right now because we had a couple board problems... [19:52] 10GB of ram.. [19:52] looking for replacements on ebay right now.. [19:53] species is currently crunching nano [19:53] its not like your setup or anything [19:53] but it might just get on the hill [19:53] perhaps :-) [19:54] ah time for me to go :-( [19:54] the hill has changed quite a bit lately.. [19:54] have a nice weekend [19:54] my bad ;) [19:54] cya will [19:54] MSG: Remote host closed the connection
