[08:44] Both. [08:44] :-) [08:45] Well if you need any help, just ask here. If no-one answers straight away, check the log later. [08:45] Cool, OK. [08:47] I was going to start to play Core Wars but I can't find enough documentation on how everything works. [08:48] I've read the ARES manual and done the tutorial but I haven't really learnt much. [08:48] So what's the best way to start? [08:53] What's your programming background (if any)? [08:55] I know a bit of VB and am learning Java. [09:10] Have you check the new players link in the topic? [09:10] Ah! Didn't see that one there. [09:50] Join: sh0ne joined #corewars [09:51] hi [09:53] Hi sh0ne [10:26] MSG: Quit: zooloo99 [10:34] The Core War article on Wikipedia has been tag to be expanded, [10:34] improved and references added if anyone has time to help? [10:41] The big thing it needs is some good quality non-Dewdney references. [10:42] And honestly, some junking of the irrelevant stuff. The instruction set, while interesting to Core War players, isn't encyclopedic. [10:43] I was thinking some stuff could be chopped out too [10:43] I'm not sure what good quality references are available [10:44] Would Core Warrior be good enough? [10:44] That's the problem with many articles :-) [10:45] The Core War Newsletter might be good enough, but isn't available online [10:46] If you see the talk page, William Buckley offers to make all the ICWS mail available. [10:46] He's an... interesting character though. [10:49] It would be handy if certain things could be made available online. [10:53] The ICWS '86 spec is not available online [10:53] First bit of vicious chopping of extraneous material completed :-) [10:55] I added a few references yesterday, mostly to Dewdney. [10:55] A good start! [10:56] I'm not sure if Wikipedia is fussy about the way references are formatted. Also, I couldn't figure out how to point to the same reference twice [10:57] on the first one [10:57] And then use it again with [10:58] There's a style guide for how references should ideally be formatted, but nobody's going to chop them out for being badly formatted. [10:59] See eg en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Cite journal for nice reference templates [10:59] That's what I thought, if someone doesn't like it, they'll hopefully reformat them. I tried to keep close to MLA [11:18] If the FAQ was up to date, we could cite that. [11:18] In my opinion, 50% of the FAQ could be removed [11:57] MSG: Ping timeout: 240 seconds [12:00] MSG: Read error: Operation timed out [12:16] Join: Davse_Bam joined #corewars [12:20] MSG: Ping timeout: 240 seconds [12:27] Join: Davse_Bam joined #corewars [12:41] MSG: Read error: Operation timed out [12:54] MSG: Quit: Swallowed by Supermassive Black Hole [13:11] Join: fiveop joined #corewars [13:28] Join: zooloo99 joined #corewars [13:28] Hey all, just a quick question: Is there a Core Wars for Mac? [13:37] Nevermind, found some. [13:37] Part: zooloo99 left #corewars [13:47] Join: Metcalf joined #corewars [13:48] I finally got my JavaScript to load xml files to work. [13:49] It's used on http://corewar.co.uk/nano.htm - but only works for Opera, Firefox and IE. [13:50] Chrome and Safari don't support parsing xml, except by a lengthy hack :-( [13:54] MSG: Ping timeout: 240 seconds [13:55] Join: Metcalf joined #corewars [14:01] MSG: Ping timeout: 240 seconds [14:19] MSG: Quit: humhum [17:44] Join: Metcalf joined #corewars [17:57] Join: CoreOld joined #corewars [18:00] MSG: Ping timeout: 240 seconds [18:00] Join: Metcalf joined #corewars [18:21] huh? Cosmic horror 11th? [18:30] ? [18:32] i mustve had some wierd idea about it being near 40th [18:32] number 1 & 2 are similar to Cosmic horror [18:33] yeah, though Chiki is younger [18:33] dont rememeber timing of spider's [18:34] it is also kinda creepy that Repent Linemen is still up [18:37] oh yeah, Obsidian was 40th [18:40] It's also nice to see quite a few new warriors at the top of the hill. It means progress is still being made on the nano hill.
