[09:47] Hi Andrew, fine thanks [09:48] I'm just reading some old magazines I got sent in the post :-) [09:48] Oh? [09:50] Not programming stuff this time, it's issues of "The British Caver" [09:50] Ahh [09:50] Neat [09:51] Yes, there's some interesting stuff there. There isn't one place where you can go to read everything about a cave, it's scattered all over. In old books, journals, society reports, etc. [09:51] I'm putting some of the information together :-) [09:52] Oh? [09:52] Making a compilation? [09:53] Yes, something like that http://caving.atspace.com/victoria.html [09:55] I'm currently trying to get hold of a couple of 19th century books I've seen references to. [09:56] Hmm, wish I could help [10:06] Need to reboot! [18:42] well, if you live in a city, it might be time to change ISP [18:45] and if you can screw around with your DSL-box, check if it shows the attentuation of the signal [18:50] nah, my isp is great [18:50] just the wires suck [18:51] my upload was still 60 last i checked though [18:51] maybe they haven't enacted the changes yet, or forgot to change that too [18:51] oh cool [18:51] crayon physics deluxe is complete [19:44] MSG: Ping timeout: 240 seconds [19:58] MSG: Read error: Operation timed out [20:00] Join: flyduck joined #corewars [20:12] Join: Metcalf joined #corewars [20:25] MSG: Quit: humhum [20:42] Join: NorthStar joined #corewars [20:58] MSG: Ping timeout: 240 seconds [21:05] Join: Metcalf joined #corewars [21:20] MSG: Ping timeout: 240 seconds [21:22] MSG: Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.84 [Firefox 3.0.5/2008120122] [21:30] Join: Metcalf joined #corewars [21:31] Stupid connection [21:44] MSG: Ping timeout: 240 seconds [21:57] Join: Metcalf joined #corewars [22:14] MSG: Ping timeout: 240 seconds [22:15] Join: Metcalf joined #corewars [22:17] hm.. interesting :0 [22:24] what's interesting? [22:24] bvowk, thisll get good for you : ) [22:25] oh? [22:25] a nano core is so small that i realized i could get an 'exhaustive' fitness of one warrior vs. another by running every possible -F offset match between the two [22:25] yup. [22:26] you could do this for any coresize i mean, but for nano it's only 99 - 7 + 1 battles i figured [22:26] so i wrote this into my benchmark script and it worked out nicely [22:26] you could use pmars -P [22:26] but then when i adjusted my fitness() function in my GA, it makes it REALLY slow ! [22:26] which does every permutation [22:27] the fitness function before could do -r 256 and it'd run a lot faster [22:27] even though 256 > 99 - 7 + 1 [22:28] well my benchmark gets a score for input war vs. every warrior in the direction [22:28] so wouldnt pmars be a lot slower than exhaust ? [22:29] also i have a problem of not being able to compile pmars w/o the graphical display so i cant figure out how to get its return [22:29] becasue the gui waits for a button press.. [22:29] see the problem with -r 256 in a fitness score though is that since its not exhaustive the fitness scores change, so new generations top members fitness scores will actually go down sometimes [22:30] so a good individual could be lost to a weaker one if it has a bad 256 rounds and the weaker one has a good 256 rounds.. [22:31] at first i was going to do a progressive averaging to help this but then i realized the exhaustive method would solve the problem perfect, but its REALLY slow, like i said [22:31] so thats it :P [22:32] oh and before i meant directory, not direction [22:32] use -P [22:32] use every permutation [22:32] its 152 round iirc [22:32] and won't change. [22:32] hrm.. [22:32] i cant get my fitness function to work with pmars because of the GUI thing though [22:33] I had code to do -P on ehxaust in C [22:33] hm [22:33] exmars has -P [22:33] yeah, i need to write the bindings for perl, but ive been putting that off [22:33] is exmars fast ? [22:33] it's exhaust with the pmars parser [22:33] hm [22:34] thatd work..
